I would like to add my name to the growing list of supporters applauding your efforts. John Coltrane was one of the greatest natural resources ever produced by this country and he has left the world with a rich legacy that continues to inspire. Let us honor the space that housed such a great soul and preserve it so that perhaps a little of the spiritual residue remaining can rub off on all of those who visit.
I feel a duty to put in my two cents because my father, Jymie Merritt, was a friend of Coltrane's and because, like a friend of my said about his experience upon first hearing Coltrane, "his music rearranged me on a sub-atomic level".
Last year I worked as an associate producer on an experimental video meditation on Coltrane's music, by filmmaker Nadine Patterson entitled, "Cosmic Trane". It's always a privilege to have the opportunity to give support to any effort that honors the memory of such a profound artist.

Dear Supervisor and Councilwoman:
Please consider favorably giving John Cultrane's home historical status and thereby saving it from demolition. I am sure private donations can be raised to restore his home and transforming it into a museum.
Thank you for your consideration.

Dear Sirs:
I am writing to you and encouraging you to support the preservation of John Coltranes Dix Hills home as a historic home. Many years in the future, musicologists will look back to John Coltrane as a historic saxophonist and musician. Jazz being the only true American art form has been transformed due to Coltranes' influence. Coltrane was one of America's "jazz ambassadors" to the rest of the world. Louis Armstrong and Benny Goodman are others who come to mind too, as all three helped to share this part of American culture with the rest of the world. The "future" will thank you, as do I.
Sincerly- Jeffrey Lange

Two of the most influential Jazz horn players lived in Queens, Louis Armstrong, and in Long Island, John Coltrane. Armstrongs former home is now a musueum. Why not Coltranes?

Steve,
I was saddened and deeply disturbed to find out people are willing to demolish an important cultural/artistic landmark so quickly just to make yet another buck. There are too many people who consider Mr. Coltrane not only to be one of the most important musical contributors of the past century, but a spiritual teacher, iconoclast and cultural leader as well. However you see his contributions, it is just wrong for a community that is blessed with such a sacred site, to even entertain the notion of destoying a sanctuary that housed the beginnings of such cultural, spiritual and musical development.
Thanks Steve for doing something about this and getting the word out--hey, I found out--and keep up this important work,
Peace,
-Scott Brazieal

I just saw the channel 11 piece. While as a musician and jazz history teacher I am unable to buy the property, please let me know if there is anything I might do to help.
John Coltrane is and has been a living force in my life for 40 years, an inspiration every day, and of course one of the true master musical creators from any musical culture in any period of human civilization. It is of the utmost importance that his home be preserved. My prayers as well as my willingness to help are with you in this work.
