Letters of Support 6

I have just read today's Islander and am thrilled that someone is involved in this project. I live in Dix Hills.

For the thirty years I have lived here, I have always been amazed that the county, Newsday, etc. have never recognized nor publicized the fact that Coltrane lived in Dix Hills for the last three years of his life. I heard Trane at Birdland several times and will never forget the experience. I would certainly be willing to help in some manner this endeavor. My phone number is (631)xxx-xxxx or contact me by e-mail. God bless you for your interest in this project. Barney Lessing

I would like to add my support for John Coltrane's house to be kept as a monument and possibly a tourist attraction for future generations to recognize this American icon and his contribution to and continuing influence in modern music. What could be more appropriate than keeping the house where 'A House Supreme' was written? I'm appalled that greed would win out over culture and history.

Sincerely,

Marion B.

I just learned that the home where jazz legend John Coltrane lived the last 3 years of his life is to be demolished. Coltrane is an american icon and I strongly feel that he should be honored and recognized for his great contribution to the American culture. His music inspired me to become a jazz musician.

I urge you to preserve the homestead as a museum honoring his unparalleled accomplishments, rather than demolishing this important piece of our history and heritage. Thank you for your time and attention in this matter.

Yours sincerely,

Madeleine E.

Dear Sirs,

I am a professor of music at City College of New York. I am writing to ask that you re-consider your plans to demolish John Coltrane's home. It should be preserved as a museum dedicated to Coltrane's unparalleled legacy in music. I and all my colleagues feel this way. I would beg that you find some way to preservr this historic site.

Sincerely,

Christopher Cherney

My name is Greg andI host a AM radio show here in NYC. We play a lot of jazz and came across your drive to save John Coltrane's house. We were wondering if you would be open for an on-air interview eithher later this AM or next week.

I strongly urge that John Coltrane's home be preserved to honor one of the most influential artist's of our time. Thank you . Gene P.

Steve, I have read two articles about the saving of John Coltranes house in Dix Hills. As a jazz & Coltrane fan who lives on Long Island I agree with you that his home should be landmarked, refurbished, and made into a museum. I am interested in volunteering to help raise funds. Regards, Larry R
