Letters of Support 8

I'm writing to express my support that John Coltrane's home become a museum. My father was a lover of Jazz and Classical music and I grew up listening to all the great composers including John Coltrane...and just as other great composers have been honored and their work and memory preserved...so we should honor and preserve the legacy of this ground-breaking artist!

Sincerely,
Vilaya Roaberts

The fact that John Cotrane was one of the 20th Century's greatest musical genuises is a given. His ability to incorporate into his music, an enlightened state of spirituality, makes him a figure not unlike Dr. Martin Luther King. The opportunity is here to make his home a historic site for future generations, as was recently done to the home of Louis Armstrong. This should not be taken lightly and every effort should be made to achieve this. I hope that this brief note may aid in this quest.

John Coltrane was one of the most important musicians in the 20th century world.

PLEASE SAVE SAID ESTABLISHMENT. IT IS AND SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A NATIONAL TREASURE.

Dear Mr. Fulgoni,

I applaud your resolve to fight the demolition of the former home of the legendary jazz saxophonist, John Coltrane. John Coltrane was a true musical genius in the jazz idiom, and perhaps modern jazz's last and greatest innovator.

Long Island, and Dix Hills in particular, should be proud of the fact that Mr. Coltrane chose our area to develop and produce some of the most important musical directions of the era, and the saving and restoration of this dwelling would insure a memorial to the dedication and genius of the man and to the cultural integrity of Long Island.

Sincerely,
Mario Cruz

Good luck in your attempts to preserve this important part of American musical history. Coltrane's home would make a fine location for a museum dedicated to him and his music. It would be great if Dix Hills could sponsor a small jazz festival in order to raise funds and pay tribute to Coltrane. It would be wonderful if high-profile jazz fans like Bill Cosby and Kareem Abdul Jabbar could get involved in acquiring this home as a legacy.

Best of luck.
Brendan Ward

I've tried to write down what A Love Supreme means to me, it's proved to be incredibly difficult to encompass in words. It is a bedrock document - I am not religious, but for me A Love Supreme is a spiritual touchstone. I wish you sucess in preserving a link to it's genesis.

Warm Regards,
Andy Newell

John Coltrane is the greatest jazz musician of the last 50 years...The house should be made into a museum...tribute to his life and work.

Thank you,

This should be a national monument !

Good evening,

I saw the story about the John Coltrane home on WB11 news a few minutes ago. I was absolutely shocked to learn that his home was in Dix Hills, as I lived in South Huntington from 1965 through 1988 and continue to have relatives in town. I was literally across the street from Dix Hills, as I lived just off Old Country Road near Wolf Hill Road. John Coltrane was a musical genius who had a profound impact on the history -- and future -- of jazz. His home most certainly deserves to be preserved, for many of the same reasons Walt Whitman's birthplace is.

I'm happy to offer my support to your cause.

Best regards,
George Steinberg

Hi All - Thank you for your efforts. Have you considered trying to contact Bill C. as a possible benefactor, he is a great supporter of jazz and was on the scene very much in the 60's. I'm sure he would appreciate the significance of this situation.

Please save John Coltrane's House.

It is a monument to modern music and a treasure to the Jazz Community. What a wonderful thing it's been to learn that the place where "A Love Supreme" was composed has the potential to be saved and preserved.

Please consider turning it into a museum and cultural center and not destroying it, like so may other places in this country that have fallen by the wayside.

Sincerely,
Jason Langley.
