Though I doubt the members of the Town Board realize it, their action yesterday was a tribute to all the great jazz musicians of the past. It marks another notch up in the issue of status and respect for jazz in our culture. Most of the great jazzmen of the past suffered greatly during their lifetime due to not only the lack of understanding of their music, but (as you know of course) the discrimination and intolerance that existed (and still exists to a great degree) in our society. Things are certainly getting better. The Town Board in its action tipped its hat off to all the jazz greats--the Dexter Gordons, the Sonny Stitts, the Eric Dolphys, and on and on--all of them...Well done, Steve.

God played the saxophone through a man named John Coltrane. Give a listen to the solos in My Favorite Things for definitive proof. Please save the Coltrane house so one day we can all come pay tribute.
Sincerely, Dan Maher Nashville, Tennessee

I am studying saxophone at BGSU (Ohio) and I would like to say that you have my support in saving the (historical) site of John Coltrane's last residence. This inspirational landmark should be open for all musicians around the world to explore and reflect upon their own musical journeys. To lose the house would be a severe loss.
Thank You, MIKE

This seems absurd that it could be an issue- this place should be preserved as a piece of America's cultural history. I wish I had more resources to help. Have you contacted any famous jazz lovers, like Clint Eastwood or Hugh Hefner, who might have the resources to be of help?

My name is Ryan Paul and I live in Austin, TX. Since I was a young teenager, I’ve been a huge fan of jazz music, and of John Coltrane in particular. He is probably my favorite jazz musician and composer. I love his music, and every time I listen, I am affected emotionally and spiritually. Please let me know how I may help in any way to preserve this historic home.

This house should be preserved. It would be a tragedy to lose such a treasured place.
