March 5-18, 2004 The BBC comes to the US to film a Coltrane Documentary
Honoring the 40th Anniversary of , A Love Supreme, a team from BBC One TV met here in the US to create a landmark television documentary on John Coltrane. Alan Yentob, host of the BBC series Imagine, will be featured in this groundbreaking show which will begin airing in the U.K. in April or May.
The BBC film team was led by multi- award winning Director Lol Lovett and production manager Juliet Gowing.
The BBC team was assisted by world renowned Coltrane discographer and historian, Yasuhiro “Fuji” Fujioka, who flew in from Japan for the BBC filming and to visit the Coltrane house in Dix Hills.
On Monday March 15, we met at my home to discuss the details fo the situation and then went to visit the site of the Coltrane home for the television show. Other guests on the show will include Carlos Santana, McCoy Tyner and many others.
It was an emotional day for all, especially for Mr. Fuji, who had never been to the home, even after searching for it, unsuccessfully, in past trips to the U.S.
